Acupuncture FAQ
What is Acupuncture?
Is Acupuncture treatment safe?
Is Acupuncture painful and what should I expect?
Acupuncture needles are very thin and virtually pain free. Most patients do not feel the needles during the acupuncture session while other may feel a pinch, numbness, or mild electrical sensations up or down the body. These are normal experiences. Please let the acupuncturist know if you are in discomfort. We care about you and strive to make your acupuncture session pleasant and enjoyable.
Once the needles are placed there may be a slight tingling, numbness or heaviness in the area. These are positive signs that the needles are affecting the acupuncture point. Patient are comfortably positioned on padded table where they enjoy ambient lighting and soft-relaxing music to enhance their healing experience. Often, people become very relaxed and fall into a light sleep during the session.
Why should I try Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a safe, effective, and prov en treatment modality that works. It can treat or relieve symptoms associated with minor to severe pain while reducing our dependency on addictive, expensive, and damaging pain medications. Acupuncture is integrated into our current health plans and medical system. We’ve treated thousands of patients referred to us by their medical doctors who trust us because of our track record of consistently providing healing results in a clean, safe, and professional manner. Our patients report that they have a better overall feeling of well being, miss fewer days of work, get along better with others, have less pain, have more energy, and reduce or eliminate pain medications.

- Don’t eat large meals just before or immediately after your visit and have a light snack before your session if you are hungry.
- Refrain from overexertion, drugs, or alcohol for up to 6 hours after the visit.
- Avoid stressful situations. Make time to relax and be sure to get plenty of rest.
- Be mindful of changes that you may experience between visits.
How long do treatments take?
How many treatments are needed and how often?
If you are like many of our patients, you will likely experience healing benefits either immediately or up to 24-48 hours after the first visit. In chronic or moderate to severe conditions more sessions are often necessary. The frequency and number of treatments is dependent on many variables including the etiology (cause), severity, other health complications, lifestyle, and diet. Generally, the longer the patient has had the condition the longer the course of treatment will be before showing substantial and lasting results. The acupuncturist is also a highly trained herbalist and will likely prescribe safe, evidence-based, nutritional formulations to enhance your healing results.
